Interviewing a Caregiver

You are interested in hiring an in-home caregiver either for yourself or to assist a loved one. You want to make sure that you hire the right person for the job.
Here are some of the things that you should ask and expect of a caregiver during a hiring interview:
- The caregiver should provide you with information about the caregiver training programs he or she has completed whether they were online caregiver training courses, in-person classes or on-the-job training sessions.
- The caregiver should be able to provide some basic information about the caregiver resources (books, dvds, support groups, etc.) that he / she finds useful.
- The caregiver should be capable of clearly expressing what has motivated him or her to do this type of work for a living. The motivation must come from a source that isn’t just monetary.
- You should get a good feeling when interacting with the caregiver. Ultimately the person’s ability to relate well to you is going to be a key factor in whether or not the person should be hired.
A good caregiver will have a combination of education and experience in the field, a true desire to work as a care provider and a personality that you mesh well with.
