Planning an Intervention

If you are at the point in your life that you are planning an intervention on someone you love, then you are most likely at the end of your options. An intervention is not something enjoyable for anyone involved and should only be used if all other options have been attempted. But if you know someone who is stuck in the perils of crystal meth or cocaine addiction who refuses to get help on their own, an intervention may be the right answer. Simply put, an intervention is a gathering of the people in the lives of the addict who work together to try to show them that they need help, that their addiction is hurting those they love and that they are there to support them. However, most addicts will not see it in this light and will instead view everyone as ‘ganging up’ on them or trying to control their lives.
Many people who are addicted do not realize the pain and suffering that they are causing to others and will immediately deny any wrongdoing. If there is a chance that the person may attempt to flee or become violent during the intervention, it may be wise to have a drug counselor on site. They will also be helpful in moderating the conversation in order to ensure that tempers do not flare. It is important to show to the addict that you love them and are only wishing to help them. A qualified drug counselor should be able to get this message across.
