Browsing Online During Work
Posted by iMautopilot on 03/22/09 in Internet

I never used to be one of those people who would browse around online during work. I always kept my work and my home life separate even when it came to the Internet. I didn’t check my personal email from my work desk and I didn’t surf the web during downtime on the job.
However, that’s changed in the past few years as it has become such a common part of the job to do tasks online that are typically associated with personal activities instead of business. For example, it is now a part of my duties to check Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn updates during the course of the day. This is done for business but it’s through my personal profiles so I end up spending a lot of my work time on personal conversations.
This has caused me to start slacking off online during the rest of my day as well. This usually happens as a result of links. Earlier today, someone on Twitter posted about Carlsbad real estate and the next thing I knew I was looking at live work lofts in San Diego County which isn’t even where I live or work. My employer is actually encouraging this?
