Big Niche or Little Niche: Which is Easier to Market?

There is a common misconception that the more popular a niche is, the easier it will be to improve your website’s standing via Internet marketing.  However, this is not necessarily true.

Think about it.  If a niche is really popular, then yes, there are more customers — but there are also many more competing businesses in the niche, which means more listings to clog up the search results.  All of this makes it harder for your site to get ahead with search engine optimization and other forms of Internet marketing.

For instance, the wedding industry is a huge industry — not just in the size of your target market, but also in the number of businesses that are vying for those same customers!  If you have a venue that, say, specializes in castle weddings or destination weddings, you will need to be sure to have a well planned and well executed Internet marketing campaign.

The opposite is the website that has few competitors, and doesn’t need to do as much Internet marketing.  Of course, whether you have a Michigan wedding venue or a business with much less competition, no business can get away with no marketing at all — not if you want to be successful.  It’s just that the fewer competitors you have, the easier it will be to do.
