Identify the Target of your Marketing Plan

When you are involved in the business of marketing a product there is only one thing that you really need to keep in mind. You may think that the most important thing is the product that you are trying to market. You’re wrong. The most important thing that a marketing professional can always have at the forefront of any marketing campaign is who the target audience is for the marketing.
Let’s say that you sell aromatherapy jar candles. You won’t typically see jar candles marketed to men. However, imagine that you want to try to target this market with your advertising. The normal marketing approach for candles wouldn’t work. You would have to find a way to market richly scented candles to men so that they would find the product appealing.
If you didn’t have your target market specifically in mind during a situation like this, your marketing would probably fail. If you are thinking only about the benefits of aromatherapy candles then you are going to get trapped into the typical marketing that would be directed towards female consumers. Focusing on the niche market that you’ve identified, you can make a better effort at marketing that will actually interest your intended audience.
