What’s in a Company Blog?

A company blog is a great way to market your company online — especially if you update the blog frequently, and your company is in a niche that will attract a lot of readers.  Basic guidelines say that a blog needs to be updated at least three times a week to be moderately successful, but should be updated three times a day if you want it to be really successful.

But what should be in a company blog?

Actually, finding material for a company blog is relatively easy, and posts don’t have to be long — between two hundred and four hundred words is usually sufficient.  Any longer than that and you might actually want to consider breaking it up into more than one post, to get more mileage out of the material.

Things that could go on a company blog include:

  • Links to and commentary on news stories in your industry.  To be truly informational, your blog posts shouldn’t just repeat the information, however — add to it by including your own commentary on the news story.
  • New product announcements.  For instance, if you sell communications and tactical equipment and the manufacturer has come up with new-and-improved Titan series headsets, that would be a good thing to blog about.
  • Sales.  If you are having a big sale, discounting certain products such as cellular phone accessories, whatever — by all means, announce it on your blog!  You can also write a news release and distribute it online, and then put the release on your blog.
  • Reviews.  There’s nothing wrong with reviewing your own products and posting your experiences on your blog.  In fact, your customers might appreciate an honest look at the pros and cons of different products!

I actually think that maintaining a company blog is a lot of fun — you can put all kinds of interesting stuff on there.  What else can you think of that you could write about on your company blog?
