Hobbies for an Ex-Army Man

I was ex-army. Every day I would go through combat training, practicing shooting targets at various distances. Eventually, you start doing it for fun, not just for work.
So when I got back from Iraq, I didn’t have many things to do for fun anymore. Bowling obviously couldn’t compare, and baseball is something you watch on TV. So I bought an Airsoft gun instead.
These things are realistic. The Classic army styles look like some of the weapons I used back in Iraq, and the Echo 1 are just plain crazy. Both of these styles made it possible for me to take up target practice as a hobby, like I was living through combat training again, except without someone yelling at my neck.
I made a few friends that were into the same thing and we all started combing the nearby parks as though we were back in the war. Something about acting out our army days without the same dangers was a thrill. When we didn’t want to shoot each other, one of us would set up targets on the trees and if we found them, we tried to shoot them down. I often had just as much fun finding places to hide the targets as I did hunting them down.
Airsoft helps keep me relaxed, in a weird way.
