I’m thinking about getting a new dog. There are a lot of different things to consider when choosing a dog including the cost of the pet, the needs that it will have on an ongoing basis and which type of dog is best for the home. I don’t yet know which kind of dog is right for me but I do know that I want to have an active dog.

I used to have an Italian GreyHound. I loved that dog to death but it definitely had its flaws. It was a really skittish animal, especially as it got older. It was terrific as a house pet but it wasn’t a dog that I could take out and about with me into the world.

On the other hand, we had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever when I was a kid and that dog could go anywhere with us. I loved to run around with it, go swimming with it and take it out into the woods to go hiking with me. I’m still really active and I want to do a lot of sporty things with my dog.

Other than that, I’m not sure what to consider when choosing my dog breed. I guess it’s important for the dog to be friendly and good with kids but I think a lot of that has more to do with environment than breed. I guess I have some research to do.
