Making a Big Business from Baseball

As a child, I was taught that it was important to follow what you were passionate in whether it be in work, business or my personal life.  My parents were good examples of this and they operated a couple of family bakeries when we were kids.  What I learned from them is that when you love what you do, it doesn’t seem like work at all.

So when I grew up, I decided that I would follow in their footsteps.  At the time, I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I knew that I needed to do something that I was passionate about.  After I thought about it for a long time, I decided that there was only one thing that I truly loved: baseball.

But I didn’t know anyone that owned a business centered around a sport, so I needed to figure out what I could do.  Looking in the paper, I saw ads for Clearwater Florida batting cages, baseball strength training Tampa and some others.

What I was looking for was a niche or void that I could fill with the business that I was going to setup.  I consulted with some of my buddies as to what they thought was missing in the baseball market in our area.

After listening to their ideas, I decided to start a Clearwater youth baseball training camp.  Though it was slow at the start, now, many years later, it is a big business.  Does it feel like work?  I love it so much, I can’t complain – there is just something about getting paid to do something that you love.
