When I realized that I was going to have to take shop as part of my last year of high school, I was less that pleased about it. I’ve always been an extreme girly girl and knew next to nothing about anything related to machines or mechanics. When I complained to my guidance counselor he disagreed with me, believing that this would be a great opportunity to learn something completely new. So I was stuck.

I figured on the first day or so we would ease into things, giving those of us with no knowledge base a change to find our footing. Well, I was wrong. As soon as I walked in the instructor asked me what multispindle machines were used for. As you can well imagine, I had no idea, and said so. I was surprised to find out that out of 25 students, only two knew what a multispindle was. Our teacher then launched into a lecture about the advantages of automatic lathes and why they were used so much in producing mass amounts of machine parts.

I was surprised to find myself interested and I actually got excited when we were told that later in the week we would be visiting a company that used multispindle machine. Who would have thought.
