The Details in Digital Photography

Despite being a popular choice for businesses to turn to when planning various development projects, there is an artistic quality to aerial photography that goes unappreciated in the business world. In the past, taking photos from the sky was more of an inexact science – people would take photos, yes, but the detail was such that you could only infer what the photo was about rather than actually see the detail.
Nowadays, the details of these photographs are so fine that you can probably zoom in and see an ant carrying a bread crumb back to the nest. There is a reason that these images are used for aerial mapping. However, there is a beauty to it too. Seeing every detail of the planet is a humbling experience, and by taking a photo of any location from a great distance away can help us see how small we are in comparison to the rest of the world.
There may be a practical purpose to these images, but images are artistic in their own right, and hopefully nothing takes away from the art form of these digital images just because they have such an important use in the industrial planning world as well.
