Why Does It Take So Long to Cancel Home Alarm Monitoring?

I have been trying to cancel my home alarm monitoring service for almost three months now! They keep saying it’s being “processed.” And of course, you get all these threats about how it will affect your home insurance rates. Is there any reason in the world why it should take so long?
I’d much rather install a home security camera than deal with these guys any more. And don’t the insurance companies offer discounts for home security surveillance? I know that more and more insurance companies use a spycam or something to insure that work that needs to be done gets done, to help prevent insurance fraud. I wonder if you have to have alarm monitoring in the first place, though, before you get an additional discount on your rates. I would think they’d prefer a camera to a burglar alarm anyway. However, I do understand why they’d really prefer a monitored fire alarm service.
Our county charges $40 if you have any type of monitoring service. I would think the county could collect that, or more, and just have the feed go straight to the fire department instead of through the middle man first. I’d be in favor of that for an insurance discount instead of using these difficult companies.
